Office Is Finally On The Move and Blog Candy

Gasp–that is some mess you have there! How did you allow it to get so bad? I can just hear you now.Â
First, I am able to upload because I packed Donnie packed up my camera cord. Lots of pleasantries cursing took place when Donnie had to climb underneath my desk and unscrew the table.  My son came by and helped Donnie carry the desk massive desk downstairs to the basement, which happened to be ready after Donnie and I spent the entire day in the basement purging. I can’t believe I actually gave in and threw out all those projects my son did in school
He probably doesn’t want them when he’s an adult anyways–or would he? Hmmmm.
With the van packed to the brim, off we went to deliver all my framed cross-stitches I did over the years, my first needlepoint I did 25 years ago, all back issues of Legacy and Sommerset Studio AND Cloth Paper Scissors.Â
As I was daydreaming thinking at work today, I thought about the 25 bottles of empty and dirty maple syrup bottles I collected on our last trip to Cracker Barrel in Michigan (I live on the US border and we love Cracker Barrel). Oh how sweet the waitress was; when she saw me grab some bottles on the tables around me, she collected 20 more for me while we were there. Okay, back to my story—while I was daydreaming thinking, I thought about the snowmen on the cover of Cloth Paper Scissors from last winter. Oh no, please don’t tell me I got rid of that issue!!! What will I do with 25 maple syrup bottles that I worked so hard on to peel off the labels and wash out?! There might be one small chance that I have that issue in my “will do” might do file pile. If I don’t have it, maybe you can send me a photocopy of the article. Tami, I know you have it because you made those gorgeous snowmen and even got an on-line publishing spot.
After we Donnie was done moving the desk, he collapsed sat down before heading out the door for his HAM radio class. I presented him with a plate of sandwiches with lots of pickles–his favourite–and tried to distress de-stress him. How? Well, I promised said that I would throw out much of what is in this photo and will organize my life once and for all. How will I do this? With your help!

Aug 17, 2009 - 10:08:48Here are the 2 best organizational tips that have been ‘huge’ for me because they drastically reduced my CS waste and made locating appropriate scraps quick & easy. First is I keep a photo-box (like from Michael’s) filled with pre-cut quartered sheets of Stampin’ Up! card stock that is separated with indexed cards. Second is the management of my “usable” scraps: I have a pocket-folder for EACH Stampin’ Up! color; each pocket folder is kept adjacent to the hanging folder containing full uncut sheets of the same color CS. Both these are right next to where I sit while stamping. My ‘waste’ CS has been drastically reduced because I USE my scrap pieces now (BECAUSE they are at my finger-tips AND quickly located without searching).
I store my Nestabilities in QuiKutz Magnetic Storage folders/books. I am able to store numerous sets per folder then label the spines with content shapes.
I mentioned regular scrap CS storage above. I keep scrap designer papers (DP) differently. DPs that come in “tablet” form: I’ve adhered an envelope to the inside cover of the tablet.
Wooden handled stamps: I have categorized my non-Stampin’ Up! stamps and then store them in SU’s largest plastic cases. Those go on a bookcase shelf, on edge (like books) so as not to damage the bottom-of-the-stack rubber. I label the edges with the theme/category.
I store my unmounted stamps in CD-Cases; the CD-Cases are in inexpensive CD racks. I have a CD carousel by my stamping spot with my most frequently used sets. For ‘text’ RUBBER stamps, I’ve stamped the outside of the CD case with black staz-on ink and the rubber is stored on the inside at that stamped spot … this way I know what that piece of rubber says without having to read a mirror image. I also stamp other images that are not as apparent when viewing the rubber.
Ribbon. I have a number of methods in use. I have spools in a plastic rain gutter hung in front of a shelf. This allows me to remove a spool from anywhere in the line-up. The next method works well for me for lengths of 3 yards-ish and less: I wind the ribbon on wooden clothes pins, the 1-piece kind. You can get bags of these at dollar stores. Then for ‘bits and pieces’, I have 4 plastic compartmentalized containers (18 compartments within), again from Michael’s. The plastic is clear enough that I can see the colors within. I keep these near at hand also, so they’re easy to reach for and check before I begin cutting ribbon off a clothespin or spool.
‘Might use one day’. I have not hit a point yet that I’m willing to part with things. I just keep ‘re-organizing’ to make more room!!!
I hope to learn some organization tricks from the replies you receive. Good luck with your move!

Wow this looks like the mess I work in LOL… now I am changing craft rooms there seems to be a bigger mess! OH the frustrations of loving what I do! I have now got a shelf with segmented slots for all my card stock, my punches are hanging on dowels on the wall and I am sorting other stuff into sections like in the catalogue. For instance, inks are in my SU! ink stand, my stamps I am going to put in groups, I also have wire baskets for paperwork etc and containers for my embossing powders and the rest I am sorting as I go and so on. I will upload some photos one day when it is all sorted, well I hope it will be sorted so I can make more projects… Hope this helps.
I have some tac clam shells you can have!
-I have all my scrap paper in a filing cabinet in folders by color
- my unmounted stamps I have on gloss card stock then with a page protector on them in a binder. all organized by company and/or theme (LOVE THIS)
-mounted stamps on shelves
-ribbon in a bin (NOT good)
-nesties in a CD case with magnets to hold them in!
- I hang on to stuff for a long time!
Hope this helps
* Give me your best organizational tip.
I use a lot of the clear shoe boxes and sandwich bags for lots of things. Silk flowers are stored by color and sizes, chipboard by theme (flowers, arrows, tags, etc.), chipboard alphabets by letter.
* How do you store your Nestabilities?
I have mine in CD cases that I have magnetic tape in them. I store the cases in open clear shoe boxes that I have on a bookshelf. They slide out very easily.
* How do you store your scrap paper?
The very small pieces I store in the biggest SU clam shell boxes by color.
The medium size pieces I store in file folders by color.
Large pieces are stored by color, dots, stripes, floral, checks, seasonal (Valentines, Halloween, Christmas, etc.)
* How do you store your wooden handled stamps?
I store them in 12 x 12 x 2 drawers by theme….flowers, Valentines, birthday, Halloween, Christmas, etc.
* How do you store your unmounted stamps?
All my unmounted stamps and acrylic stamps are stored in CD cases by categories.
* Do you have any Stampin’ Up plastic containers I can have?
I really don’t have any extra containers….actually wish I had more….I used them for lots of things.
* How do you store ribbon?
My small bits of ribbon are in sandwich bags by color in are stored in a plastic tote so I can check their first.
Longer pieces of ribbon are on heavy chipboard cards and stored in drawers by color or season.
* How long do you hang onto “might use one day†items?
Gosh I am very bad about purging my things…..I will keep things probably forever.
Oh Beth,
I can’t wait to see your new craft area! Boy oh boy do you have lots and lots of material…wow!
I’m in the process of buying more drawer containers and shelving units for my area and I am taking notes from the comment section also.
One bit of advice though, I have a medium size box that I keep for my scrap pieces of DP. When the box is 3/4 full, I sort through the DP and keep the pieces that I really like and get rid of the smaller pieces. If I haven’t used some paper or other items within a year, I’m probably not going to use at all. Have a garage sale, give some away to a person who isn’t able to afford a lot stuff or give some away to charity.
If we don’t purge and stay organized, the paper, ribbon, stamps will start to take over the house. lol
Take care and happy organizing!
hugs
Risa:)
OMG Beth. I loved your story of moving. Very entertaining to read. I have not one organization tip for you. I’m sure reading all of the ones that do come in though. I need help more than you do and I don’t have a move to blame, just a bit of rearranging. It is going to be so nice when you are finished.

Here is some tricks I use in my craft room
For my unmount stamps I put them in binder on 3 holes acrylics sheets. This way I can flip the pages and find them easiely…
I use some clear plastic drawer on a shelf just on the wall on front of my working station, this way I can see and reach for the most used stuff easiely…
I’ve put some white railing sideways on the same wall under that shelf hand there by some glue hanger and use magnetic thin to put my primas and stuff on the wall in front of me. For the SU’s little container well I use strong little magnet, one inside the box and one outside and put it on those same railing ( I could send you pictures if you want).
My punches are on the back of my door in a shoes organiser, my ribbon on the shelf in front of me in some plastic container… (not the most usefull way of storing them but works for now!)
I’ve put a shelf under my desk (on the crossing legs!) and I put a clear 12X12 box for my left over papers and I also put my ScorePal there.
I hope some of it will help you! Good luck with it all!
Beth -
If you find the article on the snowmen can you post it? Ok, I’ll admit it, I’m addicted to Cracker Barrel and I also have a collection of empty maple syrup bottles. They were so cute, I hated letting them go in the garbage, but still have no idea what to do with them.
And good luck with your organizing, I am also trying to get that done, I have my son’s old room with plenty of space, I just have so many things in boxes, etc., I don’t know where to start first. I have to admit I have started organizing on a small scale though. For scraps of card stock I bought one of those portable plastic filing cases with a handle. Inside I put 2 sets of folders. The first set has colors listed on them (red, white, blue, purple, yellow, etc.), in these I store scraps of plain cardstock by colors. The second set is also labeled by colors, but designated by DP in front of the color. In here I store all my scraps of designer papers. It has proven to be quite helpful because it is easy to open, glance through or put in scraps.
For my Spellbinder dies I took plastic CD cases, and removed the section where the actual CD goes. I then lined both sides with magnetic sheets, I then can place two sets of Nestabilities in them. I then use my label maker to put a label on the outside. These I store on a shelf in my closet. For the larger Spellbinder diecuts, I bought metal DVD cases, removed the plastic DVD insert, lined the inside with magnetic sheets on both sides. Again this allows me to store 2 sets of the diecuts, and I also use the label maker to label the outside.
For my Cuttlebug folders, I purchased a small clear plastic box with a handle (think miniature file box). I then made a sample of each embossing folder with cardstock, stapled a little tag I made on the top of the embossed sample with the name of the folder on it. This serves as a tab, I then place it in the little box in alphabetical order and place the actual Cuttlebug folder in back of the embossed sample. This allows me to see what the actual folder looks like embossed and allows me to see at a glance (by looking at the tabs) what folders I own.
And that is about as far as I have gotten – LOL! Hope this helps a little bit?
Thanks – Elaine Allen
I feel your pain!
First off the easy answer, I store my nesties on Magnetic Vent Covers that I picked up at Home Depot. They come in a three pack and are 8″ wide and 15″ long and can easily be cut down. You get 3 in a package so that is a deal. Then I had ordered some plastic sleeves from an online store and right now I can’t think of the name but I will check it out. The nesties fit in the sleeves just right. They also had sizes for the sizzlets. Love them.
My unmounteds are stored in CD cases right now but I’m not happy with that so I don’t know what I’m going to put them in.
If you had asked about empty SU cases a few months ago I could have given you lots – Retired sets that I kept were taken out of the cases and stored in empty Club Scrap boxes that I cut tops off of according to what they were – flowers; birds; etc.
Cuttlebug folders are in a $1 store find plastic container but I use them a lot so they are usually on the cabinet where the cuttlebug and Big shot sit.
I try and stay away from CB for now as I’m trying to get the rest of my weight off. Only 9 pounds left to go.
My currant wood mounted sets are in the containers they came in and I have so much ribbon and fibers that I have several storage areas. Need to fix that soon.
Good luck on getting your room done. I can’t wait to see it.
Beth the storage for the Nesties I use is called Zip-N-Flip – Here is one place that carries them but google them and you might find them near you if you are interested. I love them.

•Give me your best organizational tip.
•How do you store your Nestabilities? In their original packages, I only have 2
•How do you store your scrap paper? Accordian file, 3 colors per pocket.
•How do you store your wooden handled stamps? in drawers(iris carts) and on homemade standup shelves to look at their beautifulness.
Also, SU sets in their boxes in drawers
•How do you store your unmounted stamps? rubber ones in 3 ring binder on photo pages. clear ones in their packaging on their sides in shoeboxes
•Do you have any Stampin’ Up plastic containers I can have? sorry, using mine.
•How do you store ribbon? I WANT to store it on dowels hung on the small curtain brackets. I’ve seen a COOL way of using vinyl gutters hung on the wall, I’ll have to see if I can find it again.
•How long do you hang onto “might use one day†items? Forever or until the new decade declares it out dated, whichever comes first
My favorite find is that I store all the little embellishments in boxes that I found at the hardware store. I like the fact that there about 20 little boxes in a larger box so I can just pull out what I need. I love Flourishes large plastic box for my stamps since they are clear and I can see what is in it. Oh, your room looks like mine. LOL! I store scraps in clear shoe boxes sorted by a couple of colors together. I have seen people put magnet strips on theback of the door for Nesties. i don’t have the space for this. I have drawer set that holds 12 x12 papers and I set two aside for scraps. One I put DP and the other I put solids. I occasionally purge my scraps and give them to a friend for her daughters to use. Good luck with purging. I am still learning how to get rid of stuff that I don’t need.
Well, organization is very personal. Each person finds things that work for them. One thing I found in my very tiny space is I didn’t have room to store a lot of wood block stamps. What was I to do with all my wonderful rubber stamps? I started unmounting them. If I can get the rubber & foam off in one piece, then I cover the sticky side of the foam with Aleene’s Tack it over & over. This makes the stamp repositional. Now how to store all my unmounted stamps… I looked at several methods out there and figured that my rubber obsession wasn’t going to work with any of them. I took 12×12 page protectors and inserted cardboard. I make a print sheet of the stamps, put that inside the page protector and stick the stamps on the outside. I have Sterlite boxes (similar to Iris boxes, but much cheaper) that came in a rolling cart. I put the 12×12 page protectors with stamps into my boxes. I arrange the boxes by type/theme. And when I travel, I use 1 box to put in sheets of stamps I think I will need at that time. I love this system and it takes up less room than all the wooden stamps. I order most of my stamps now unmounted and use the Tack it over & over on these as well. The foam takes up more space and It isn’t really necessary if you use a stamping mat.
As for other things, well I use a small tackle type box for brads, charms, buttons and metal words/letters. This is packed up for travel to crops. Any extras are put in those hardware multi-drawer systems.
My Nestabilities are stored on magnets (from vent covers) in a cd case. I don’t have very many right now, but will have to soon upgrade to a larger one or a binder type of system.
I have several clear drawers that I label for my embellishments. Bling, punches, chipboard, flowers, embossing powders, adhesives, collage items, altered items, 3D stickers, and so on.
I have a ribbon bag for most of my thinner ribbons and the wider ribbon are kept in one of my cubes.
I have cardstock separated by type. Colored, patterened & specialty. My scraps are kind of mixed at the moment in 2 places.
I use a lot of the clear plastic shoe boxes for other things. Keeping the containers clear allowes me to see things and remember that I have them. I tried keeping everything sorted in colored containers that were labeled, but I forgot about the stuff very quickly.
Another organizational tool is my desk. I have a desk from Best Craft Organizers (http://www.bestscrapbookshelf.com/?action=view_catalog&Join_ID=106409) The many drawers are nice to have things right at hand.
Well, I hope maybe some of this helps. Good luck in your new space!
Here is a link to what I use for my CS scraps.

You may laugh but it works perfectly for anything under 7×7\ scraps – anything bigger goes in a file folder or packaging of the patterned paper or CS. When DH and I went to Las Vegas this is the only purchase we walked out with – and for stamping/scrapping! When we went back the next year I had to get one for DD. It has several pockets on each side. I have one side separated by colors and the other side for neutrals and different sizes. It works great for traveling to crops and other fun things too!
I store my ribbon on long pieces of Tulle with a dowel tied at the bottom. The spools are threaded through with the center of the spool on the tulle. I have them separated by color and have them tied to a heavy duty hanger and hanging in my craft room. Works great! Enjoy your new space
Best read I’ve had for ages Beth!! Ha Ha!!
Now, when it comes to organising I have one method. Let everything pile up around me like a volcano, then when I end up working in 2 square inches of space, down tools and put all my stuff away.
(I keep promising myself I’ll do this more often as I love it when my room is cleared up).
Like a lot of the other commenters, I use old CD cases to store my Nesties. I use magnet on a roll, cut into two strips the length of the case and stuck on the bottom on the outside in a X pattern. This covers the whole of the base without using too much magnet.
I have CD slots in my desk which they all sit in.
I laminate old card, stick my unmounted stamps on it and punch holes down the side and they live in ring binders.
I have a filing cabinet I bought from the local council dump for £15. Best buy ever!
It holds all my card…..nearly. I also have a shelf in my bedroom with eight of those magazine file thingies. (They have sloping front opening). Handy for excess card and paper.
I also have two sets of hairdressers drawers. You know the ones. They have ten semi-transparent drawers, all different colours. I was lucky that my hairdresser was re-vamping her salon and she gave them to me.
Cuttlebug folders and Sizzix type dies are all stored in piles on the shelf on top of my desk.
Ribbon is stored in a long box that I bored holes down both long sides and threaded the ends through. (It doesn’t get tangled at all with this method).
Pickle jars and the plastic see-through containers that contained those little liquid sachets for laundry are used for pens and markers.
Little 3 drawer storage thingies for Sizzlits, bling and stamping blocks.
Hmmm. I must be more organised than I thought I was!!! Ha Ha!
Nah. I’ve just looked at my craft room again. It looks like Beirut on a bad day.
I must tidy up today.
Viv xxx
I love you if only for your picture.
Love the way you wrote your note. Got a few chuckles out of that one.
Ahhh…it seems I’m always looking for better ways to organize too and I don’t envy the massive job you have ahead of you but wish you all the luck in getting it done. I’ve recently begun re-organizing my space too and one of the best things I did was to take hold of all that ribbon and tackle that. I used notebook rings (the kind you would find in a 3 ring binder.) Mine came in a package of 10 and their very inexpensive at Walmart. Next to buy was a package of large safety pins. The ribbons were then removed from their rolls and threaded through the safety pin at the halfway point. You can fit several different ribbon on one safety pin. The ribbon is not pierced by the pin so there are no holes in it, they just hang from the center of the ribbon strip. The pins are then placed on to the rings and the rings are hung from hooks attached to the side of a storage cabinet. They are also arranged by color or theme. I keep holiday ribbon apart from the colored ribbon so I easily know what I have for my holiday cards without searching through the colors. Takes up a lot less space and it’s readily viewable and reachable.
My acrylic stamps are stored on their original plastic background sheets and placed into a binder I once used to store stickers. Craft stores carry those plastic binder sheets with different size compartments in them and gives lots of room for small collections of stamps or for larger ones. If I don’t have the original background sheet the stamps come on I found the stamps stick nicely to the back side of the binder pocket.
Embellishment get stored in a “plastic tool container”, the kind the men use for screws and nails and such. Great little storage drawers for all those little embellishments hanging around.
Paper well that’s another problem in itself and I haven’t really solved that one yet. Angle plastic boxes from the craft store hold some paper and again are sorted by color and theme, other paper sits in drawers or piles…ughh.
Have fun with your new space, it will be worth it in the end. Dawn
I can relate to your room– Until i had special shelves made by a local handyman to hold ALL my wood mounted stamps on my wall. I love just looking at what I have. A real easy way to store my nestabilities is with CD cases- I glue a magnet strip on the back inside- and they lay flat and all in order. Since they’re clear- i can easily see what they are. i actually used some old fridge magnet business cards and cut then in strips to glue on the cases. I put my ribbon on dowels, so i don’t have to remember what i have.. I actually just started sorting some stamp sets into seasons, stack them in shoeboxes, labeled, and easy to pull to use. Good luck– I still make such a mess when i stamp, but it’s all fun!
Can’t wait to see the finished room!!!!

Hi Beth
•How do you store your Nestabilities?
My nestabilities are in CD cases
•How do you store your scrap paper?
My papers and cardstock are by colors in large freezer bags and my scrappapers and cardstock are in a smaller plastic bag inside the large freezer bag so they’re not out of sigth, I use them before cutting a whole sheet. I have plastic drawers and it’s 1 color by drawer.
•How do you store your wooden handled stamps?
All my stamps are unmounted and in CD cases. Once I did unmout my stamps and put them in CD cases I realised that if I took off the mat I would place twice the amount of stamps in the CD cases. So I took off the mat. They’re sorted by theme and side labeled.
•How do you store your unmounted stamps?
CD cases
All my CD cases are in a CD rack. I gained a lot of room (by taking off the mats) so I use the remaining room with CD cases witch top or base is missing and made small shelves with these broken CD cases for acrylic blocs, stamp cleaners, Stickles bottles and few small things.
•Do you have any Stampin’ Up plastic containers I can have?
Nop, just have one.
•How do you store ribbon?
On little cardstock like the one used for embroidery floss and classified by colors in two plastic boxes especially for embroidery floss.
•How long do you hang onto “might use on day†items?
Too much time, in fact I can’t throw anything (shame on me)!
I hope this could help you a little bit!
Have a nice evening!
Oh Beth, I have to tell you that I really enjoyed reading what you wrote here. LOL
Not sure if it’s an orgainazational tip, but that applies to me at home. (mind you I do have a messy craftroom sometimes, so believe or not?!
* How do you store your Nestabilities?
I keep them in their original packages, so I can hang them with a hook on the wall shelves. However, I am thinking of getting a magnetic board to hang on the wall and just stick the nestabilities on the board for easy access.
* How do you store your scrap paper?
I just dump them all in a big wired drawer, so I can see them through and for easy access on whatever colors I need.
* How do you store your wooden handled stamps?
I have a shelf on top of the countertop and just put all my wooden handled stamps there.
* How do you store your unmounted stamps?
I cling them on empty CD cases and put them all in a CD storage, but label each CD case so that I know which stamps are there. Sometimes, I stamp the images on a little sheet and insert it in the CD case for easier view/reference.
* Do you have any Stampin’ Up plastic containers I can have?
I need more for those loose stamps I have, lol, but I also put those loose stamps into different drawers and seperate them into catagories, (ie. sentiments, kids, Christmas, etc)
* How do you store ribbon?
I put them in cardboard boxes or store them using the SU ribbon holders.
* How long do you hang onto “might use on day†items?
Depends, but sometimes, I just insert them piece by piece when I send things off to others (ie. image swaps, card swaps, etc.) I might not be able to use them, but others might make great use on items I might not use for a long time!
Hope some of these might help. Good luck!
Hugs,
Cabio
**Best organizational tip: I’m not the best person to give advice right now on that. Although, I’m working on it.
My ‘goal’ when the kids go back to school is to finally get my entire house organized and follow the LESS IS MORE theme!
**How do you store your Nestabilities? I don’t have any.
** How do you store your scrap paper? My scraps (I only use SU!) smaller than half sheet go in a clear cello bag by color and then are stored with that color on the rack. So that when I go to make a project, I pull out the cello bag first and if needed, then a full sheet. I also know for sure what color is what. I’ve done it from the day I started stamping and it works great! When I need a small piece to punch, I go to the bag, or if I need a small piece for an accent on a card, I go to the bag first.
**How do you store your wooden handled stamps? I only use SU!(for the wood mounted), so they are in the cases on a shelf to my left and they are sorted by type. Words or sentiments, Background, Holiday, mostly flower, alphabet, kids, birthday, and misc or other. I also put a colored circle sticker on them when they retire. I have some that will be awfully hard for me to part with and some that I can’t wait to say bye bye to!!
**How do you store your unmounted stamps? I only have a few so they are in CD cases in a CD rack on the shelf to my left also. I have used my label maker to label the cases and they are divided by type also.
**Do you have any SU! cases I can have? Not right now, sorry.
**How do you store ribbon? On a pants hanger from Target. I used a knife to peel off the rubber part and the spools fit perfectly. I have 2 of them. I use washers between the spools so they spin nicely.
**How long to you hang on to stuff? Sometimes too long, but I have my own craft room, so I have a little extra room. But, I’m getting better. . . .
okay I may not be of help as I find my area looks alot like yours LOL I try to clean up after a project but I get too excited to post it that I just leave the mess. Nesties are stored in a desk draw, paper in 12×12 containers, scrap paper in a large box under my desk, wwoden block stamps are in a drawer and non mounted are all in CD cases. My best thing I did was I stamped all my stamps and numbered each CD so I can look at my book and just grab the CD that it is in. How long do you hang onto “might use on day†items? a week..
Hi: oh, i’ve soooo been there. but a few of your questions did catch my eye: (1) i store my nestabilities in CD cases. i take a business card magnet, place it in the center of the case and layer my nesties. keeps them from falling; (2) i store my unmounted stamps in cases i get from Stamp-By-Step! as they are larger than a regular CD and hold more stamps; and (3) YES. i DO have some empty stampin up boxes for sale. you can email me at poca62@comcast.net if you are still interested.
can’t wait to see the finished room!
Hi Beth, Good luck!!! I hope the following tips help.
•Give me your best organizational tip. Label everything.Keep all like items in one area. For example, paper stored together in there specific brand groups. Wooden stamps in one area and categorized. Acrylic stamps in another area and categorized. Inks stored in an organizer. Die cuts in an organizer.
•How do you store your Nestabilities? I use quickutz magnetic folders.
•How do you store your scrap paper? I use an Artbin Tote.
•How do you store your wooden handled stamps? I use Letter 5 drawer boxes.
•How do you store your unmounted stamps? I use CD cases.
•Do you have any Stampin’ Up plastic containers I can have?I used to hold on to the Mongram and background boxes. I got rid of them a long time ago. The took up too much space, but my full Stampin Up sets are stored in their cases.
•How do you store ribbon? I use a 4 tier pant hanger. Three of the tiers hold my Stampin Around Wheels and the 4th tier holds all of my ribbon with loose leaf binding rings as the attachment. I must have 40-50 binding rings holding individual color groups. I will be sharing my stamproom on my blog next week, including my ribbon storage.
•How long do you hang onto “might use on day†items? It seems forever. I am trying to do better, but it is very hard.
No tips. I just ADORE those snowmen too on C,P,S. Yes, you HAVE to find those bottles!
This is my tip: don’t forget the ceiling! You can hang many things from there and thus save space. Good luck with your project! Can’t wait to see the finished photos.
wow here goes:
Paper: purchased the wire cube kits from target…4 total. Make 12×12 cubes with 1 inch shelves. Mounted cubes (4 high) on plant stand bases with wheels. Banded my towers together with heavy duty plastic ties from Home Depot. Use this for paper groups and cardstock by brand and color. I also have 2 plastic units that are 3 or 4 feet high that hold plastic 12×12 containers for my other papers or projects not yet completed. Works well!
Ribbon: All ribbon is sorted by color. I still have the original idea in place: A regular hanger! Used safety pins to group colors and pinned to hanger as I usually buy 4 yards at a time. Then I moved onto spools lol…Now I have those in MANY plastic containers that once held strawberries or raspberries from Sam’s Club.
Acrylic stamps: Arranged alphabetically by theme in one large basket. Alphabets in separate basket.
Wooden stamps: All SU in their containers and all labeled on 2 sides. Again used plastic containers from raspberries, pinapple, grapes, cookies, brownies ( no I dont eat when I scrap!:)) All labeled and placed in themes. My outlyers lol…MANY …these are stored in 2 closet organizer shelving units I got at a garage sale. They are 6 feet tall …top shelves do not move, but the bottom ones slide out! AWESOME! So these are placed in there by theme or sentiment as well. My extra large wood stamps are displayed across the top shelves..looks pretty!
Embellishments: 1) Flowers : I bought the huge jumbo container for CHEESE BALLS at Sams….ate the cheese balls tho…washed it out, put almost all of my flowers in these. It is clear so I can see exactly what is in there! I have another that I have my ribbon scraps in. 2) metal like ribbon sliders, charms, etc. I have 10 plastic containers from Joanns that have multiple compartments in 2 sizes in them. I sort by color (gold, silver, bronze, copper, colors) Again, easy to reach for and see what I have. I have kept sets of embellishments in tins they came in (SU) or recylced tins I had here and just labeled.
3) chipboard: I have a chipboard cupboard lol…luv this stuff! Has 3 drawers and is sorted by plain, shapes, letters and projects in process. 4) Stamping: I have a 10 drawer rolling cart for stamping supplies including ink, blocks, embossing supplies, etc. But my Distress Inks are solo in a shelf I found at a garage sale that sits in front of me while I play. Holds 18 in slots, rest on top.Punches: all held in an over the door shoe holder with 3-4 per slot…works great and I can see them clearly! 5) Special embellishments bought to go with coordination papers are held on my CLIP IT UP..so love this thing! Also holds unique items I find at sales…Could easily buy another! 6) Paints: have these lying on their side, bottom facing out in a drawer I turned on its side and wall mounted. Easy to see the colors to grab and go! 7) Alchol ink, stickles are stored in the plastic containers mentioned before and sit on the shelves about the rubber stamps.8) Beads: luv em! sorted by color or type and held in baby food jars so I can see whats I got! Then all placed in large plastic container on shelf with #7 items. 9) Clay and pasta machine: clay in ziplocks and labeled near pasta machine on another shelving unit. 10) Large Tools: Cricut ex on its own table. Cuttlebug on shelf with basket just above with all my dies and emb folders.Printer on its own table (old end table).
Layout: I purchased the shelving bases and units from Pottery Barn last year on close out for pennies compared to the original prices. These are above and to the right of my working table that is 6ft long. On either side of this table I have another 6 foot table so it is a U-shape. On the pottery barn shelves I have my cricut cartridges, plastic bead containers from Joanns that hold my brads, my eyelets and these type of embellishments. Also on the shelves are completed projects, magazines, etc…VERY pretty! On the other side of this room I have 2 more 6 foot tables set up for other scrappers when my buds have time. We travel lite as we all have tons of stuff to use up!
As you can see I like to recycle and encourage others to do so. This was once my kids playroom and now its MINE! The treadmill sits there beckoning me but…maybe next week! I love my space and all my goodies. Always fun to figure out a new spot for new things I am trying. Good luck on yours! and cant wait to see it! Cher
and I never throw anything away! so that tells u how long I keep stuff! but…I am very organized and know exactly where I put things so it works for me.
I also have this 3 tier thing that sits at my table with each tier having 4 cubicles in it..and it spins…Hobby Lobby find 2 years ago. Here I had things I need all the time stored: corner punches, adhesives, tapes, piercing tools and bonefolder, etc…things you need all the time. I also have the mini mister ranger stand now..luv those! I will find a holder for my blending and inking tools somewehre…not willing to pay rangers price just yet…Cher
Give me your best organizational tip.
Store as much as you can in the smallest containers and don’t be afraid to punt a system that isn’t working for you. JoAnns has these great Art Bin storage totes with handles. They have sturdy seals and are 13″ square so will hold 12X12 paper and embellishments and can go from craft room to a crop or a class. I love these things! I have all my embossing powders, dew drops, buttons, floss, etc. in those.
# How do you store your Nestabilities?
I store my nestabilities in clear cd cases. I use mostly unmounted stamps so they all store happily together.
# How do you store your scrap paper?
right now I have it all over the place. Some things I keep with the paper packs and some I have actually organized by color in photo storage boxes. I have some in a plastic container on my work table so that I have a “quick” go to stash.
# How do you store your wooden handled stamps?
the few wooden stamps that I haven’t “unmounted” I have stored in those little plastic three drawer storage things.
# How do you store your unmounted stamps?
cd cases for my unmounted rubber stamps and some of my clear stamps. the rest of the clear stamps are in 4X6 accordian files.
# Do you have any Stampin’ Up plastic containers I can have?
Sorry. Can’t help ya there.
# How do you store ribbon?
Hmm – I really like taking my ribbon off rolls and wrapping it around old fashioned clothespins and keeping it in a basket and in a big jar. I also took a 4 inch deep rectangle basket and put some dowels in it to hang ribbon rolls from and have that on the wall.
# How long do you hang onto “might use on day†items?I’m a hoarder due to thinking I can use everything for stuff for upcoming craft fairs so I keep them for a year or two and then toss them and a month later wish I had that stuff. LOL!
Hope the move is going well!
Deana Said,
Beth, Love your commentary! You have a great sense of humor!
Best organizational tip – You’re doing the best organizational tip I could give you – move to a larger space.
I store my Nestabilities in a Cuttle Bug binder. Since I use them with my Cuttle Bug, it seems convenient. I bought a table kind of desk at an estate sale that I have my Cuttle Bug set up on. I store the binders under the desk. I store some papers and fabrics that I use often in the thin desk drawer. I also keep a container on the desk that holds scissors, stylus, ruler, stencil brush and whatever other tools I use often with the Bug.
My scrap paper is stored in a large plastic box that’s made for file folders. Each expandable file folder has an index tab with the color of cardstock that’s in it. I also have folders for metalic, floral and holiday scraps.
My wooden handled stamps are stores on narrow wooden shelves that my wonderful husband built to fit the spaces on my wall where I wanted to put them. I love having them out where I can see them. They inspire me.
My unmounted stamps have just recently found a new home where I can see them better than in the drawer where they were. I had told my husband that I wanted to buy some of those metal rods like the stamps are sold on in stores. He came up with a clever idea and took a small block of wood, drilled a hole in it and glued in a 1/4 inch dowel at a slightly upward angle. The dowel is about 6 inches long. With a Clip-it-Up clip attached at the top of the stamp set (still in the package), it holds 12 stamp sets that are very easy to access.
Sorry, I’ve found uses for my Stampin’ Up plastic containers. I keep my clear small sheets of bling in them – rhinestones in one, swirls in another, flowers in another, pearls etc.
My ribbon is now stored in a beautiful Clip-it-up Ribbon Organizer that I splurged on a few months ago. It took me 3 days to go through 2 large plastic drawers of tangled ribbon strips, baggies of small strips and unrolling rolls. Now my ribbon is an inspiration to all who behold it. The ribbon is organized by color. It looks like a shining double rainbow. I’m glad I bought it.
I hang onto “might use on day†items almost forever. About a year ago, we moved our bedroom into the craftroom, and the craftroom into the much larger master bedroom. (It used to be the garage.) Since I’ve been stamping for about 12 years and never parted with even the tiniest scrap, I had a huge mess. I was determined to organize and consolidate. I used an old entertainment center to store and display much of my stuff. I shopped about 10 Ross stores within 100 miles of my home and bought hugely discounted and matching (hence the trip to all the stores) baskets, decorative boxes and storagey (I know that’s not a real word), but pretty, office/desk containers. I threw away maybe a paper bag full of stuff I knew I’d never use, sold a table full at a little craft fair at my local stamp store and donated what didn’t sell to a thrift store. Now that I now what I have, I’m much more careful about what I buy.
You’re going to LOVE your new space! It will be worth all the trouble.
Oh Beth this is way too funny & I don’t feel so alone anymore. I’m Barb & I’m a stamping addict, my best tip for you is to live by my motto: “Being organized, orderly & neat dampens my creative spirit.” Repeat as often as necessary…….LOL
We moved 2 years ago to a small town, I purged, thought I was safe as there are no craft stores here, WAS NOT going to keep buying more supplies……HAHAHA Did I mention I am an addict, I’ve found so many great online stores. I was going to have a NEAT stamp room, looking back that was too funny to actually believe. Hubby made me shelves on all 4 walls for my wood mounted stamps, I’ve run out of wall space. My unmounts hang in see through packs on my closet walls, took off the doors for more space, couldn’t close them anyway. Well I won’t bore you with more details as it looks like you can so relate anyway. Oh, I’m also a beader, but eventually had to move my beading supplies to my rec room, I think I mentioned I am an addict.
Oh, please don’t enter my name for your great prize, did I really say that, yes, I did. Oh I must be having a strong moment & I really don’t want to take away the joy of another stamper.
Off to check out an online store I just found today, Sunflowers & Dragonflies. I just found this site from another Beth’s blog.
I do wish you the best of success in your latest endeavor & thanks for the chuckle.
Happy hugs, Barb
