Tutorial Tuesday-Masking Technique
For this week’s tutorial I am going to show you just how easy masking is to do. Believe it or not, this was a technique I tried to avoid for a very, very long time, because I didn’t think I could master it. When I bought this Hero Arts stamp set I saw many, many cupcakes together, so I finally learned to mask. Have fun with your masking project.

Supplies:
Black stamp pad
Assortment of stamps
Post-It Notes
Stamp two, or more images side-by-side. Start with the image considered to be in the front row, or the front of the images that you are stamping. Repeat stamping each image onto the Post-It note so that the top of your image has sticky on the back.

Next, cut out the images you stamped onto the Post-It note and stick them over top of the images that you stamped. This will protect your images on the next step. As in this photo, stamp your image exactly where you would like to stamp to go. Your small images that were stamped out earlier are totally protected by the Post-it note.

Continue to stamp out the images you would like to use. If you would like a third layer of cupcakes, you would just repeat stamping cupcakes onto the Post-It note and cover up the second row of cupcakes, and then stamp out a third row.
Finished card.
Twinkle Toes Meets Twinkling H2O’s
A very special friend from the Stamp Shack recently celebrated her birthday and this is the card I made for her. I have never met Nancy, but over the past year we got to know each other through the Shack.
As discussed in Colour Me Beautiful and Twinkling H2O’s, the image was coloured with Prismacolor Pencil Crayons and Odorless Mineral Spirits and then painted with Twinkling H2O’s. The image was coloured to match the most delicious Basic Grey. Thank you, Cathy, for bringing it into Lasting Impressions because I’m nuts for Basic Grey. Can I convince you to keep bringing Basic Grey in? LOL.
White dots are placed with a Sakura Souflee pen. Scallops were created with the SU slit punch, and those cute pink crystals are from a craft store. Scallop stamp is also by SU. Corner tab was double punched with pattern paper and pink paper. Pink paper behind the elephant image was run through the Cuttlebug.
Thanks for stopping by!

Bandana Technique Is So Fun
Did you get this month’s TECHNIQUE JUNKIE NEWSLETTER yet? I’m particularly fond of this issue because it has so many fun techniques. This card uses the bandana technique which is extremely popular this month. It seems like everyone on the TJ Yahoo group is posting a card with this technique. The top card uses SU images on the background and Inkadinkado on the top.
The bottom card uses my new Hero Arts stamp. For those of you who are in the Sarnia area, I will be teaching a class with this stamp very soon. Details will be posted in Lasting Impression’s newsletter and on their website. Hey, just for you I might even post a sneak peak of the card.

Prismacolor Mini Tutorial
Good morning. Today I thought I would surprise you with a mini tutorial. On the left you will see how I coloured my Suzy Toronto image to look like the blended one on the right. Blending of the Prismacolor pencil crayons is done with odorless mineral spirits, as described in Colour Me Beautiful. These are the areas I would like to point out for your reference:
- Looking at the girl on the left, notice how a deeper shade of turquoise is coloured on the under sleeve, and deep in the “v” neck of the shirt. Light is hitting the upper portion, hiding these areas, so that is why they were shadowed.
- Notice the shadow area on the girl in the pink. As you can see, the bottom fold of her dress dips down, and is an area that is more shadowed than the portion of the dress that billows upwards. The bend of the arm and the bend of the stomach area lies in a shadow area as well. Even her shoulders are shadowed because her hair is covering the top of the sleeve.
- Bright pink is coloured on the cheeks, feet, neck area, and top of hands.
- Hair has darker colours at the roots and lighter colour on the tips.
- The pink dress is blocking the orange dress, so a deeper shade of orange is coloured on the right side of the dress.
- To bring the flower and leaf forward, on the pink dress, red was shaded around the decoration.
Good luck with your colouring. Have you tried Twinkling H2O’s yet?

My Weekend Surprise
I have to show off my new birthday present from Donnie, which came as a total surprise to me. It is a Canon Rebel and will allow me to take fabulous photos for you. I will now be signing up for a photography class at the college and I can’t wait. Aren’t I spoiled?
I was recently asked how many blogs I read. Just recently I scaled back from 65 to 30. Besides card blogs, I read altered art and polymar clay blogs, and about marketing and research, photoshop tutorials, and I visit the Odd Bird Planet forum, Stamp Shack and Splitcoast Stampers (link on my side bar). Here are some fun links for your enjoyment:

Tutorial Tuesday – Twinkling H2O’s
It’s tutorial time again, and today I will show you how to use those Twinkling H2O’s you hear everyone talking about these days. LuminArt is the manufacturer of H2O’s. Watch your surface shimmer and glimmer once you painted with this product.
I cannot stress enough the importance of owning a good brush. In my case, I am a painter, and have lots of “good” brushes. Rarely do I use anything but a good quality artist paint brush. The nicer the brush, the nicer the results you will get.
For purposes of this demonstration you will see me using a water pen because it is the easiest way to describe how you can paint with this product, without going into a long detailed painting lesson. While I played around, I was pleasantly surprised to see how lovely a result you can end up with, just by using a water pen and brush.
As always, I am interested in hearing input from you. Did you find this tutorial helpful? Did you get the kind of results you had hoped for? Are there problems that you encountered that I can help you with? Are there tutorials or tips that you would like to see. I would be happy if you linked me to your cards using Twinkling H2O’s.
Supplies:
Coloured image
Twinkling H2O’s
Spray mist bottle
container with clean water
various paint brushes
Spray mist the H2O containers. If you are experienced with painting you will dip the tip of a dampened flat brush into the watercolour (H2O) and follow the outside line of your image. If you are not experienced, you will find it easier to dip the tip of a tiny water brush into the watercolour and follow the outside edge of your image. You do not want a really watered down paint. Try to keep the paint moist, but not saturated.
This photo shows a close up of the coloured image before it is painted.

Due to the nature of the paint being watercolour, you cannot see the actual paint very well in the photos, but do not worry, this technique is very easy to follow. With a small tip water brush, put the Twinkling H2O onto the tip of the brush and draw in your colour along the areas that you would like to colour. For example, blue was added all around the wing tips and to separate the two layers of skirt. To determine what colours work best you can chose a darker shade of what has been coloured, or refer to your colour wheel and choose a coordinating colour. For more information on using the colour wheel you can read Enhance the Beauty of Your Card With the Colour Wheel.
Your image is now finished.
True Friend
Good morning folks! Are you in love with these Inkadinkado birds as much as I am? Each month Inkadinkado has a buy two get one free deal, and each month I buy more stamps because I can’t resist the urge to get creative with them. Image was coloured with Prismacolor pencil crayons and OMS, and then painted with Twinkling H2O’s. For details on colouring you can read my Colour Me Beautiful tutorial.
Today I paired up Inkadinkado with a SU sentiment that comes from the True Friend set. The sentiment stamped out so crisp and clean because I stamped with Versafine. White dots were added with a Souflee white pen. Designer paper is from SU. Crystals are an unknown source.
Well, it’s off to my stamp room. It is a huge mess and it’s time to clean it again. Have a wonderful day. Don’t forget to visit tomorrow because I will be posting a tutorial on Twinkling H2O’s.
Thank you for stopping by.
