Inkadinkado in the Spotlight

I am in love with Inkadinkado stamps, and I receive their Inkanews. Their most recent issue offers free stamps in exchange for cards, which will be placed in their gallery. This is one of the cards I sent them. The technique I used is the spotlight technique. It’s not too late to submit your cards.

Burnished Watercolour

Thought I would branch out and use new colours. Wow, that’s twice in one week! While I was pulling out new colours thought I would pull out a new technique from the Technique Junkie Newsletter. Actually, it’s a new-to-me technique that I tried for the first time, and was published in the August 2007 Newsletter. Better late than never, eh?! I also used the Speckled Paint technique which I published last week on my blog.

Gee Thanks

You may have noticed that I’m using more white in my cards. White has never been a colour to me, but I’ve come to realize that white adds a punch that no other colour can achieve. I noticed that this year’s Odd Bird Planet design team is using a lot of white with the OBP images, so I thought I would try it too. Know what? I like the results. You’ll definately be seeing more white with my OBP cards.

A Moose on the Loose

When I set out designing stamps, I wanted to create Canadian images because there just wasn’t enough around for us Canadian stampers and scrapbookers. Some people are good cartoonists (I’m not one of them) and some are good at drawing from reality–that’s where I fit in. As a teenager, I used to go to the highschool library, pull out nature books and draw what I saw. Before I had children, I would draw Walt Disney figures on bristol board and paint them with acrylic paints, so that one day I could decorate a nursery. Today, I’m picking up my drawing pencil again.
You can find this moose, and other moose, for sale at Sunflowers and Dragonflies Creative Designs.

Doesn’t this background look like wood? That’s the intriguing thing about the Technique Junkie Newsletter–a little knowledge will go a long way. If you are a subscriber, take a peak at the Dec/Jan issue and look for the Oil Pastel Chic tutorial and you’ll see what I mean.

Happy Harmony

Happy harmony was created when I used colour from Tuesday’s colour challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  What? Am I hearing sighs of relief that I didn’t use my standard Tempting Turquoise or Pixie Pink?! Okay, I’ll admit it; I had a wonderful time playing with these colours.
This image was created with watercolour crayons as seen in yesterday’s tutorial, Speckled Paint. Two identical images, two completely different looks.

Magnolia vs Stampavie Challenge 17

I couldn’t resist diving right into this week’s sketch challenge. There are different prizes each week. All you have to do is use one of the images that is permitted for the challenge, post your name with your blog link, and wait for the results. To help get you jumpstarted, visit my store where you can purchase your first–or fifth, Stampavie image.

Image was watercoloured with Tombow markers and Twinkling H2O’s.
Link me up to your Stampavie card, and be the selected winner at Magnolia vs Stampavie this week, you’ll walk away with your choice of Prima flowers from my store. You must link me up to your card in this post to qualify for my prize.

Tutorial Tuesday: Speckled Paint Background

This week’s tutorial idea came about when I was playing around with some watercolour crayons last week. While I was painting with the crayons, I noticed speckles of paint flicking off onto scrap paper. You can purchase speckled paper, but what I love about this technique is that you can create speckles to coordinate with your image, such as the one pictured here.

Supplies:Â Watercolour crayons, brush and water, stamp

Stamp out your image, or colour your image as I have done here. Lightly mist your stamp with water, colour your stamp, and stamp out your image.

With a wet brush, sweep the top of the crayon towards you so that speckles of paint fall over your image. The more water you use, the fainter the speckle.

This photo shows the painted speckles quite clearly. You are now ready to create your card.

Cards for a Cause

While I was blurfing, I stumbled upon a blogger who is offering blog candy–and boy is it awesome candy! All you have to do is create cards, sign them, and send them in.  These cards will be distributed over the course of the spring to elderly people to cheer their day. For more details on Spread a Smile Campaign you can visit Never Enough Rubber Stamps.
Stamp:Â Odd Bird Planet; Paper:Â Basic Grey Urban Pairie

Thank You

Happy Thursday! This card was so much fun to make. The background is a Technique Junkie Technique. To complement the background, I coloured the Stamp’n Up image in fall colours. Next, I pulled out Prima flowers and punched earth tone leaves with my Martha Stewart punch.
Are you a Technique Junkie? Why not sign up to receive the eight page high gloss newsletter. With your subscription, you will be part of our Yahoo group where hundreds of cards are posted each month. Tell Pat that Beth sent you.
