Tutorial Tuesday: Alligator Skin Wallet Gift Card Holder

Last week I showed you how to make the paper handbag seen in this photo. Today I will show you how to make a coordinating wallet. The wallet on the left uses a specialty paper that looks like alligator skin. Today I will show you how to create your very own alligator paper as seen on the wallet to the right. You have the choice of creating a square top wallet, or one with curves as seen on the right.  This wallet is perfect for a gift card, and is sure to delight your recipient.
A template for this wallet will be posted when I am set up in my new studio in the basement, where I will have a new and cooperative scanner/printer. While I was working on this post, my old and cranky scanner told me “tough luck, you ain’t getting anything today!”

Template will become available soon. In the meantime, these are the sizes:
Double-Sided paper:Â 4″ x 7 7/8″
Brown cardstock:Â 4″ x 1 3/7″
Brown paper: 4″ x 6″
To produce an alligator skin, use this Cuttlebug template as shown in the photo above. Another view of the template is below.

Additional Supplies:
brad (1), VersaMark, clear embossing powder, heat gun, corner rounder, double-sided tape

Cut paper in sizes listed below:
Double-Sided paper:Â 4″ x 7 7/8″
Brown cardstock:Â 4″ x 1 3/7″
Brown paper: 4″ x 6″
1. Fold designer paper at 2 3/8″ from bottom edge
2. Optional: Use a corner rounder on the top edge of the designer paper
3. Optional: Use a corner rounder on one end of the 4″ x 6″ cardstock

This next step is way cool!!   Press Versamark over the entire top layer of your brown cardstock. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat emboss. Here you will see the before and after of this technique. Doesn’t the finish product look like real croc’?!

I used a corner rounder on my wallet.

At the top end, add a brad.

Place double-sided tape on the wrong side of the brown cardstock.

Lay your brown cardstock on top of your designer paper. Please note that this wallet does not appear to scale because it is another wallet I was working on. I forgot to take a picture of this step with the card I am showing you today.
The smaller piece of cardstock will be placed on the opposite end of the designer paper. There is now designer paper showing between the two pieces of the wallet.

Fold the wallet so the top aligns with the bottom.

Add double-sided tape to the left and right edge of the opening. There will now be a pocket to house your gift card.

This wallet is another example of what you can do with faux alligator paper. The inside of the wallet was done a little different than I showed you.

Go Confidentally in the Direction of Your Dreams

Hi Folks!
Today’s challenge on Splitcoast Stampers is to CASE Teresa–va.sunshine’s gallery.  I decided to case va.sunshine’s, “Peace.”
In CASEing Teresa’s project, I changed the shape of the panels and did a summer theme instead of a Christmas theme. I loved how she tied her ribbon so I did the same.
Thank you for stopping by. Hope you have a fabulous week ahead!
