How to Create a Wood Paneling Background

Hello there!  It’s been a busy month for me, creating three tutorials, and making cards.  I just hope I can keep up the pace throughout the rest of the year.  I am so excited about how my “wood paneling” turned out.  Written step-by-step below.

Stamps that I used in today’s tutorial can be purchased at Technique Junkies for 10% off by using my code TJ10Beth.  This also applies to regularly-priced items.  Links to the stamps I used are below.

By using Weathered Wall, and Wood stamps, you get an awesome lumber look.  An alternate method is seen on my creating a picket fence post.  This post also shows you how I created my streaks.

  • Using Weathered Wall, stamp out two pieces of cardstock on 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • On one of the wall and wood images, take Distress Inks that coordinate together and drag the ink pad, from top to bottom without stopping.  If you do stop, it will create a vertical line, but because this  is going to be cut into 1″ pieces, it won’t matter. This will give a weathered look.
  • On the second stamped image mist the cardstock lightly with water, then proceed to drag your ink pads from top to bottom, without stopping.  This will give a painted look.
  • Stamp out Wood onto dark cardstock.

Putting together:

  • Once dry, cut your finished wood-like pieces into 1″ x 1″ pieces.
  • Add 1″ pieces onto a double-sided sticky sheet, or you can lightly glue your pieces into place.
  • From left to right, place your first 1″ square along the bottom, in a triangular shape.  Place your second piece beside the first and continue to fill in the entire card front.  Randomly place 1″ pieces as seen above.

  • Turn your finished card front over. With your paper cutter (preferable) or scissors, cut the pieces that are hanging over the edges.
  • Taking the sticky backing off your sheet, and place the finished piece onto the front of a 4 /14″ x 5 1/4″ card.
  • Add a sentiment, or image to the front of your card.

Beth this is really neat, both the different backgrounds and how you cut them up to create that tiled wood look, like a parquet floor? Anyhow, great job!
